My first blog post

 Whales

Whales, we all know what the majestic giant is, but have we really thought or researched the specific things that it does or what it eats?  Maybe Migration Patterns of whales? Or even facts about their body and their dietary needs. At the end of this blog you will walk away knowing more about whales than you ever did, and be fascinated by the big friendly giants.

Whales don't just sit in one place their whole life, I mean come on they are the biggest animal in the world. During different times of the year they migrate to warmer or colder waters to help them survive. Whales don’t want to be too warm or too cold so during the summer whales will migrate to colder waters for richer feeding grounds. For example in the summer the blue whale migrates up to North america and Alaska where the krill can populate. In the winter whales migrate down close to the equator where the water is warm. They migrate to warm water to reproduce and make babies. For example the blue whale goes close to California and Costa Rica to make babies. This becomes a year after year routine so if you're going to go to California then you might want to do it in the winter.

As the biggest animal in the world whales have a pretty big appetite so when they migrate to colder waters in the summer they are looking for specific food. Whales eat a variety of small animals, but what they really like to eat is krill. Krill are small crustaceans they are found in all the world's oceans. Wikipedia states, “The name "krill" comes from the Norwegian word krill, meaning "small fry of fish" . It’s funny that the biggest animal is eating small fish and growing so big, well with a big mouth like whale sharks. It's fine. Whale sharks use a technique that sucks all of the krill in their mouth then filters out all of the water making a delicious snack.

Hopefully you have learned a bit about whales. Feel free to comment about what you learned about whales.

  4. You did a very good job with you word usage, using good adjectives. I once went on a whale watch and I saw a huge whale, about 60 feet long breech from the water. What I wonder is, how fast do they go under the water?
